Shatter Me

O God

I have consumed so many good books
Worshipped so many noble thoughts

In secluded mountains

Holy ponds

And ancient groves

I have devoured

Holy Writ

Pious legends

And sacred rimes

From morning dew

To starry light

But what is the use if

When I knead it all

In the stony mortar of my heart

I cannot winkle out even

A single drop of love

A true  sigh of longing?

O God

Break my heart

Storm my castle

Flatten my Jericho

Make me mad with love for Thee.

What is the joy in visiting
Monuments of words
Fallen from pious, dead, lips
When I am locked out
Of the Living Word?

O God

Destroy my destruction

Separate my separateness
Empty my emptiness
Overflow my fullness

I am dying to trade
My daytime little peace
For a night of divine madness
From which I pray Thee
Never wake me from!

My Baba Has Gone Home

Written the day after Baba's Mahasamadhi in Miami—December 4, 2002

Paramahamsa Hariharananda
May 27, 1907 - Dec. 3, 2002

Today the Garden of Love

Faded a shade or two

The pearly rose

Lifts her mournful head

Towards the relentless sky

My Baba has gone Home

Today the Book was turned

To a mysterious page

The telling lips are sealed

The knowing smile—effaced

My Baba has gone Home

Today the flute player

Skipped a gorgeous note

The Song Divine flutters
In muted harmonies

My Baba has gone Home

The Heavens have gained

A brilliant new star

A conductor of compassion
In the Orchestra of Joy

My Baba has come Home

Career Moves

Fresh out of college,
Armed to the teeth with ambition

and my brand-new MBA
I joined a large investment firm.

First day on the job.

Folks friendly enough.

The president came to address
His new batch of eager analysts.

Good, long, solemn speech.

What are the firm's Philosophy

And Goals and what else…
'Stuffy in there' I thought and dozed off.

Woken up by the applause,

I checked my watch in alarm
I was nearing thirty-five.

Time for early retirement.

I went to look for a real life.

In the plaza the religious criers

Were hawking their job offers
"Join us, be part of the Elect!"

Part from them, that I did.

I took a quiet by-lane

that lead to

You.

Baba's Mensajes

Always pray:
“O God my forgetfulness is
my sin,
please give me constant alertness.”
