Robindranath Bhattacharya was born in the hamlet of Habibpur, on the bank of the sacred river Ganga, in the district of Nadia, West Bengal, 65 Km from Kolkata. Nadia is considered one of the holiest places in India as many great saints and sages were born there.

He was one of the pioneer of Bengali epic poetry, and was the first to translate several holy scriptures in Bengali such as the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Deemed to be a reincarnation of Shri Krishna, he was instrumental in reviving the bhakti, devotional, movement in India.
The father of modern Kriya Yoga and only known direct disciple of Babaji Maharaj.
Lahiri Baba is today known as the "Father of modern Kriya Yoga", as he initiated and guided thousands of devotees while remaining in his family and at his job.
