A practical workshop with Yogi Sarveshwarananda Giri
Stress has become synonymous with modern living in the Western world, if not across the globe. Although it can be beneficial, most people experience its effects as some form of health problem. However, help is at hand. Yogi Sarveshwarananda is delivering much-needed relief in the form of workshops on Yogic Stress Management.
Sarveshwarananda believes that this common curse can be readily remedied through the time-tested arts of yoga and meditation. “Stress has reached epidemic proportions in many parts of the world. Few are immune from its effects – research shows that even young children suffer from the consequences. Perhaps more alarming is the spread into hitherto undeveloped countries.”
Stress affects people of all backgrounds, races, creeds and gender. “I typically see three broad categories of people – those from large organizations – businesses and the like. Then there are those who find that simply coping with family life overwhelms them. Unfortunately the fastest growing sector is schoolchildren and their teachers,” states Sarveshwarananda.
His workshop consists of three elements. First the participants learn how to comprehend stress and are taught how to identify signs of stress. Once they have this broad understanding they use various techniques to repair the damage caused by stress. Finally the workshop helps them prevent stress from harming them in the future.
“What we need in the West are practical tools to help us cope with our busy lives,” offers Sarveshwarananda. “The time-tested scientific tools of Yoga, Ayurveda, and allied holistic sciences are simple, safe, and subtle, yet extremely powerful in their effect and duration.”
The workshop uses a combination of postures, acupressure self-massage, mental exercises, breathing practices, chanting, relaxation, and meditation. These methods help bring the brain to its least excited state, and the mind enters a state of higher consciousness which automatically dissolves stress. |
